Cemeteries

 The following is a list of the locations where women soldiers are buried.  I have intentionally left out details for some entries due to new, ongoing research.  The blog posts I have included are, in some cases, just a few articles I have written about these women.  Search my blog for more.

GEORGIA

*Allatoona Battlefield - Unknown woman killed during the Battle of Allatoona Pass while serving with the 29th North Carolina Infantry.  She was buried in a yet-to-be-discovered mass grave along with her male comrades.  Visit my blog at  https://forbiddenhiddenforgotten.blogspot.com/2019/10/battle-of-allatoona-pass-155th.html. *South Park Cemetery, military section, Greensburg - Elizabeth Finnern, reported by historians as a soldier but was a nurse and laundress of the 81st Ohio Infantry instead

MARYLAND

*Antietam National Cemetery - Anonymous woman soldier discovered in 1865 when bodies were being exhumed for reburial in the national cemetery.  Grave location is unknown.

*Cedar Hill Cemetery, section 10, plot 59, Suitland - Loreta Velazquez

MASSACHUSETTS

*Greenwood Cemetery, Haverhill, Essex County -  Mary E. Grush Lang,

	9th.Avenue,Lot-70,Grave-3.  Deserted an unknown Massachusetts company as a recruit in Beverly before submitting to the medical exam due to a fear of being discovered.

MISSISSIPPI

*Vicksburg National Cemetery - Anonymous woman perhaps of the 1st Kansas Infantry.  This soldier was previously identified as Alfred J. Luther.  However, my research points towards someone else.  See

Research shows that the woman soldier written about by Fred Haywood is not Luther.  Yet, she may still be buried in Vicksburg National Cemetery as an unknown.  A.J. Luther is buried in section K, grave 5971.

*Montezuma Cemetery, Montezuma, Avery County - Sarah Malinda Blalock (also spelled Blaylock), "Sam Blalock," 26th North Carolina Infantry and Union guerilla band.

*Unknown cemetery near Thivener, Gallia County - Frances Quinn Angel (called Frances Hook in the newspapers), "Frank Miller," 90th Illinois Infantry

*Florence National Cemetery, section D, grave 2480 - Florena Budwin.

*Chattanooga National Cemetery - "Charles Junghaus," 3rd Missouri Infantry (US).  Buried as "Charles Jungham" in section K, grave 9798.  See my book, Behind the Rifle, for more information.

*Dover Cemetery - Unknown Confederate woman killed during the Battle of Dover (or 2nd Fort Donelson).  She was discovered by a burial detail and placed in a trench with her male comrades.  See my book, Behind the Rifle, for more information.

*Nashville - Pest House Cemetery

*Shiloh National Cemetery, section R, grave 3633 - Anonymous woman discovered in 1934 buried with eight other soldiers in a mass grave.  There is also an unknown Confederate woman soldier buried in one of the mass graves located in the national park.  See my book for more.

TEXAS

*Washington Cemetery, Houston, section G, GAR Lot, grave 26 - Sarah Emma Edmonds Seelye, alias, "Franklin Thompson," 2nd Michigan Infantry




VIRGINIA


*Fairview Methodist Church Cemetery, Ivanhoe - Mary Ann Wright.  She was captured with a squad of bridge burners.  Newspapers reported she bore the rank of captain.  Military records reported she was a first sergeant with Co. F, 4th Kentucky Cavalry (Crosby's Scouts).  I believe she was merely a scout or spy since the first sergeants on the roster of the 4th KY do not match her service history.  Nevertheless, she has a military headstone.  This is a cenotaph only.  There are no records of her burial.  But her siblings are buried in this cemetery, so she may be also.

*Lakeview Cemetery, Hamilton, plot C-46 - Charlotte Ellen Hope Fulton.  Historians reported her as a soldier, but I found information that she served as a guide only:  http://forbiddenhiddenforgotten.blogspot.com/2014/12/charlotte-hope.html)


*Poplar Grove National Cemetery, Petersburg - Unknown Federal woman discovered in 1866 when bodies were being unearthed at the Crater for reburial.  Location of grave unknown.
